Charting new depths with the DOXA SUB 750T Clive Cussler

It’s been 20 years since Sahara first hit the big screen; an action-packed adaptation of Clive Cussler’s bestselling novel, featuring a certain orange-dialled dive watch worn by the legendary Dirk Pitt. And today, on what would have been Cussler’s 94th birthday, DOXA continues the adventure with a striking new limited edition, the SUB 750T Clive Cussler.

This isn’t just a nostalgic nod. It’s the third chapter in DOXA’s tribute to the man who brought the brand to life in the imaginations of millions. Cussler, an author, adventurer, and founder of the real-life NUMA (National Underwater and Marine Agency), was a lifelong fan of DOXA watches. His hero wore one. He wore one. And over time, the bond between DOXA and Cussler became more than a literary device, it became a part of horological legend.

This latest watch doesn’t follow the path of previous tributes, like the aged-steel SUB 300T Clive Cussler editions from 2022 and 2023. Instead, DOXA has chosen a new compass bearing, building this year’s tribute around the rugged 45mm SUB 750T platform. Updated, redefined and more wearable than ever before, this 45mm SUB is ready to go deep.

A slimmer SUB with serious wrist presence

The SUB 750T Clive Cussler is a technical and aesthetic evolution. For the first time, DOXA has refined the dimensions of its 45mm case, reducing its profile by 2mm, compared to the SUB 750T from 20 years ago. The result is a powerful-looking watch that still wears comfortably and feels balanced, even on smaller wrists.

This is a watch that retains the key features of the professional-grade 750T series, 750-meter water resistance, screw-down crown, unidirectional bezel, and a Swiss automatic movement. However, the newly introduced case design signals the beginning of something new. Think less brute force, more agility. The new silhouette reflects the dual identity of the DOXA diver: made for ocean depths, but also perfectly at home on dry land.

Design cues that dive deep into the Cussler universe

There are tribute watches and then there are watches that feel genuinely connected to the life and world of their namesake. This limited edition succeeds in the latter. The signature orange dial, a DOXA hallmark since the 1960s, remains front and center. It’s the color that made DOXA a standout choice for professional and recreational divers alike, thanks to its superior underwater visibility. It’s also the color indelibly linked to Clive Cussler and Dirk Pitt.

At 7:30 on the dial sits a small but potent detail - the NUMA logo. Understated yet powerful, it anchors the watch in the real-world adventures of Cussler and his team. This is more than an emblem. It stands for purpose, the shipwrecks discovered, and mysteries solved beneath the waves.

An engraving that tells a story

Flip the watch over and you’re greeted by a beautiful engraving of the compass rose—an icon that reappears throughout Cussler’s novels. More than a decorative touch, it’s a tribute to the directions his life and work explored.

Each cardinal point carries meaning: the North for constancy and truth, South for mystery and wanderlust, East for discovery and new beginnings, and West for closure and revelation. It’s a fitting motif for a man whose fiction often mirrored the structure of a great voyage and a reminder that every DOXA is more than a watch. It’s an invitation to explore!

Engineered for explorers

Inside the SUB 750T Clive Cussler beats a Swiss automatic movement running at 28,800 vph (4Hz), with a power reserve of approximately 56 hours. It’s the kind of no-fuss, reliable caliber that serious divers and seasoned collectors appreciate, and it is decorated with DOXA finishes, and protected by the robust case that’s pressure-rated to 750 meters or 2460 feet.

Every detail reinforces the watch’s professional pedigree. From the screw-down crown and caseback to the engraved no-deco bezel. Even if you’re not planning a deep-sea salvage mission, it’s reassuring to know your watch could handle it.

Two straps, one adventurous spirit

The SUB 750T Clive Cussler comes with two strap options, giving you two distinct ways to wear the watch. The classic DOXA “beads of rice” bracelet in brushed steel brings a timeless, elegant touch to the rugged tool watch aesthetic. It’s fitted with a folding clasp and dive extension for practical use.

The second strap is a vibrant NATO in orange with a black center stripe that channels a more relaxed, summery vibe that looks back to the weathered book-and-journal packaging theme introduced in earlier Cussler editions. Both are housed in a collector’s presentation box inspired by old maritime logbooks, a subtle nod to Cussler’s lifelong fascination with naval history and storytelling.

A family tribute with historic meaning

This edition is strictly limited to 94 numbered pieces, in honor of what would have been Clive Cussler’s 94th birthday on July 15, 2025, celebrating an ongoing and deeply personal partnership between DOXA and the Cussler family.

Dirk Cussler, Clive’s son and fellow author, has worked closely with the brand to ensure the authenticity and spirit of his father’s legacy shines through. And in keeping with that spirit, a portion of proceeds from the sale of this model will be donated to NUMA to support its ongoing maritime preservation work.

A continuation of the story

With the launch of the SUB 750T Clive Cussler, DOXA does more than release another limited edition. It reinforces a legacy. One built on real-world exploration, compelling fiction, and enduring design.

This is a watch that connects past and present. It speaks to readers, adventurers, and collectors alike. It celebrates one of horology’s most authentic collaborations and proves, once again, that some stories are best told through watches.
